This 87 year old diva died of heart failure on Monday.

- Hemsley became known back in 1989 when she was convicted of tax evasion.
- She served 21 months for the charge
- She helped her husband run a $5 billion empire that included managing the Empire State Building
- Forbes magazine ranked her as the 369th richest person in the world (2007)
- She was a philanthropist; some of her charitable gifts included giving $25 million to New York Presbyterian Hospital, $5 million to Katrina relief and $5 million to help the families of firefighters after September 11.
- There are pleny of unflattering stories about her including a contractor who said she wouldn’t pay for $88,000 worth of work because she was entitled to a commission for the other jobs he’d obtained in their buildings. [Source]
