Miscarriage, Abortion- What’s the Difference?

September 27th, 2007 By: DJ Nelson · 3 Comments

A woman goes to the ER after suffering from a miscarriage. What follows is quite disturbing.

“…On, Sep, 21 2007 I received a statement for BCBS [Blue Cross Blue Shield] that they were denying all of the claim. I called them and asked why they were denying the entire claim, and was told by Jane, “We do not cover ELECTIVE abortions. If you chose to terminate your pregnancy for non-health threatening reasons, BCBS will not cover it.” WTF!!!??? I asked her, “Are you saying that my records state that I had an ELECTIVE abortion, in an ER at 12 o’clock in the morning?” It was then, I think it clicked in Jane’s mind what she was dealing with and told me how sorry she was. I lost my cool and even started crying. I had a miscarriage not an abortion, and being treated in such a condescending way by BCBS really ticked me off.” [Via Consumerist]

What a slap in the face! Something has to give with the health care system in this country. I’m not sure what, but we’ve got to make some changes. Any suggestions?

That’s ridiculous. I don’t even know what to say about that. It’s bad enough when the doctor’s treat you like crap, but then to turn around and have your trauma billed by idiots…it’s just like…damn. *smh*

It’s the worker bee syndrome -don’t think, just do what you are told.

Oh my G-d! It is traumatic enough to miscarry, trust me, I cant imagine being haggled by bcbs b/c you had to go to the hospital. What a bunch of heartless idiots. I would have flipped out, even worse than I already was, if my insurance carrier called me & told me they wouldnt cover my medical bills.
