At least The Supreme Court still has some sense. Take a look at this and see your prophecy of checking a girls shirt come true.http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/06/25/national/main5112597.shtml

I like the methods of protest being used, as well as the fact that boys are taking a stand on the side of the girls in this school. Just because everyone has their period doesn't mean it doesn't have to be a private matter. I don't want everyone to know my menstrual cycle, even if it is natural to have it. It's one of those TMI things. Besides, in a culture where being female is supposedly inherently unnatural (the male gaze, anyone?), the last thing a teenage girl wants to do is talk about her monthly visit.

Woah craziness!!! Seriously and thought must girls used that as an excuse not to do things, and now they are being persecuted almost. Why would anyone ever want to know that anyway?

To Jessica. A rent-a-cop is not a doctor. To further, making sure children don't carry backpacks of all things should not be "standard procedure". I can't see why anyone would send their child to such a distrustful institution.

Wow. Really? Get over it. It's not a big deal. You wouldn't freak out if your doctor asked if you were on your period, you know why? Because it's standard procedure, as I'm sure it was for the security guard. Jeez, don't blow things out of proportion.

So, knowing that public school essentially is merely a prep for prison, why are you not homeschooling? Seriously.

Every girl has their period, its not something girls should be ashamed about! WHO CARES? let the whole world know you are just like every other female on Earth, and able to bear children. I can't wait for the day when it is okay for girls to have their period, without feeling gross and unnatural. Just because males don't menstruate, doesn't mean its wrong! It is completely natural, and who cares if someone asks about it? They needed to know for issues regarding their policies on bags!

We never carry anything dangerous? Are you kidding? I've hidden razor blades in my clothes before (not my bra, but still...). Yes, those were for hurting myself, not others, but they could easily be used for hurting others too.

That's horrible... that girl shouldn't have been embarrassed like that. =/

"One strategy would be to use reusable cotton sanitary napkins. He would be in for quite a surprise when caught pawing through a bag containing napkins destined for the laundry."

Yes, lets make him suffer for doing his job ¬_¬

There is obviously some sort of security reason as to why the security guard needed to check that no one had backpacks and the like. And how else could he have found out why she had that small purse. I think he was in the right to inquire but I also think he should have either let the girl explain it or mention how he is obligated to ask before he did so.

"What’s next? Breast checks to make sure they aren’t hiding any dangerous items down their shirts?" No, because girls never carry anything dangerous, its unladylike
