I feel guilty.
I watched the premier of the Kim Kardashian show last night on E! I didn’t plan on watching it, I was actually watching the discovery channel show on the Duggar Family…but it went on commercial so I flipped around. I knew it was going to be a hot mess thrown on screen, but I figured I’d flip right back to the Duggars after a few minutes.
Who is Kim Kardashian? According to the E! channel she’s Hollywood’s Best Booty. But to put it nicely, she’s a young lady who is the daughter of former OJ Simpson attorney Robert Kardashian. Why does she have a reality TV show? Well she became famous when she started hanging around Paris Hilton and then she made a sex tape with singer Brandy’s brother Ray J. That fact alone should have been enough for me to watch something else, I am so tired of women becoming ” sex tape idols”,but I watched it anyway. But my curiosity quickly turned to disgust.
Kim’s mother and her husband were having an anniversary party. Kim decides to buy them a stripper pole. She and another lady are in the bedroom examining it and then one of Kim’s younger sisters comes in. I don’t know how old she is, I’m going to guess 12, but whatever her age is, she promptly started grinding on the floor and putting her finger in her mouth in a very suggestive manner. Then the little girl gets up, gets on the pole and starts swinging upside down like a trained stripper. The ladies, and I use that term loosely, were sort of laughing as if it was cute- I on the other hand was appalled.
Luckily, the girls father walked in and he was just as upset as I was. He said his piece, grabbed the child, and walked out with her.
My question is why are girls being sexualized at such a young age? Girls should be taught how to use their minds to get ahead in life. They should be taught that their bodies are sacred and they don’t have to be provocative to get attention. But what am I talking about. With all the smut that’s being thrown in their faces how are parents to compete? How are parents to raise young ladies who see stuff like this and think it’s sad instead of sexy?

So true! I watched the show. I’ve always thought Kim was really pretty and was curious to see how she was “in real life.” lol
I was shocked when the little sister walked in and did that and they were laughing at it. Kim did seem surprised but she obviously didn’t find it embarrassing to her family or try to stop the little girl. All I could say is thank God that dad is around. *smh*
In order to counter this “sex kitten” lifestyle being presented to young girls, I would say the best thing a parent could do is lead by example & focus on involving girls in activities that build self esteem (such as sports and extracurricular activities at school). I remember reading about a study that showed teens who are involved have higher self-esteem and they dream bigger, so are less likely to become involved in destructive behaviors that could mess up their futures. Those who don’t, feel like they have nothing to lose.

Girls are being sexualized because parents aren’t raising their kids. They are too laid back. They are letting TV and the Net do their job.

Let’s talk about BRATZ dolls! Talk about sex kittens. Ya know, I’m starting to think I was blessed with this girl I have (tomboy who eschews girly stuff) becauseI just couldn’t handle this type of ****. Where does a 12 year old learn what a stripper pole is for? TV? What show??? good lord

Parents aren’t doing their job because they can’t do it, they cannot compete with the constant bombardment of smutty ideals into their children’s minds.
