I Love Misogyny- VH1 Style
Note to self: Never watch VH1 at 2am.
I was channel surfing way past my bedtime and I happened to turn to a VH1 show called Celebrity Eye Candy. I flipped to the preview text to see what it was about and this is what I saw.
Celebrity Eye Candy- “Three Bimbos: The Musical”. A collection of Paris Hilton’s, Britney Spears’ and Lindsay Lohan’s most embarrassing moments is set to music.
Excuse me?
Since when it is socially acceptable to refer to women as bimbos? I don’t care how crazy, drunk, or reckless these women have behaved. This title is crossing a fine line.
Not to mention the content. Let’s make a musical so we can subject them to even more humiliation and degradation. This country really needs to grow up.
The argument can be made that they bring it upon themselves but that’s still no excuse to display this type of misogyny. After all, VH1 is not a group of buddies sitting in their backyard making jokes. I’m sure this title had to be approved by several people before it could be displayed on national television.
I didn’t watch the show and actually I don’t think it aired that night because when I changed to the channel to make sure I copied that description verbatim, Hulk Hogan was on.
My husband thinks I’m over reacting. I think that if you find this to be acceptable then pretty soon you’ll find yourself “not making a big deal” about far greater issues. Desensitization leads to acceptance. I’m not ready to accept bimbos as a substitute for the word women.

Shock value sells but then again with the crap they air I’m not too shocked.
